Searching for a dentist can seem like a daunting task when you don’t know exactly what to look for. We recommend taking things step by step to make the process quick and easy.

In this blog, we’ll explain the five steps to finding a great Atlanta dentist. But first, make a list of qualities you desire in a dentist and the services you need.

We’ll wait.

Got it? Good! Now, follow these simple steps to find the dentist that’s right for you!

1.    Google

When you type “Atlanta dentist” into the Google search bar, a list of dentists near you will appear. There will be several dentists, and we certainly don’t expect you to research each one of them. At this point, it’s best to narrow down your search by choosing the most practical options based on location and hours of operation.

2.    Read reviews

Before the internet, people chose a dentist based on the recommendations of their family and friends. Now, we can read online reviews from anyone in our community who has visited the dentists in our area to help make our decision!

Next to the name of their dental practice on Google, there will be a star rating that you can click on to view their reviews. We recommend only reading the reviews of dentists who have a 4.5 rating and higher.

There will always be one or two negative reviews because it’s impossible to make everyone happy, but the majority of reviews should be positive. Look for reviews that mention things you’ve written down on your list of characteristics and services.

Here’s a review from one of our many satisfied patients:

“Very pleasant and professional staff. Dr. Rodgers carefully and patiently reviewed my x-rays and addressed all my concerns. I like the calm atmosphere in the office – it is not a dental circus — they are not interested in selling products or services you don’t need or want. Most important is that Dr. Rodgers is clearly competent, highly skilled and caring – I have complete confidence in his abilities.” Mary N.

Based on the reviews you read, narrow your list of potential dentists down to three.

3.    Visit the website

The next step is to visit the dentist’s website. Here, you should find information about the dentist, his treatment philosophy, services, payment options, and new patient specials.

Again, look for qualities that align with your needs and narrow down your list based on how well they match up.

4.    Make some phone calls

There are a few reasons you may need to call the dentist’s office, such as:

  • Additional questions about services, technology, or the dentist
  • Information about insurance or payment policies
  • Scheduling an initial consultation

During this phone call, pay attention to how the receptionist or hygienist answers your questions. The way a dentist’s team members treat patients is a direct reflection of how he or she runs the practice.

5.    Visit the office

Finally, visit the dentist for an initial consultation. During this appointment, a dental hygienist will take x-rays, discuss your dental history, and introduce you to the dentist. The dentist will examine your teeth and gums and the x-rays to determine your oral health.

He or she will make treatment recommendations based on those findings and should be open and honest about each of those options.
